Project deep well in Sanga – Nepal

The Autonomous Province of Bolzano approves the second construction phase

I

In January 2019, ProNepal submitted to the Autonomous Province of Bolzano for financing of the second phase of construction for the construction of a deep well and the connection to the existing drinking water system of the village of Sanga in Nepal.

The entire construction project is scheduled to last two years and was approved as an overall project in 2018. The cost of the whole project was approx. 120,000 €. The main objective of this project is to expand the drinking water plant in Sanga in such a way that, in addition to the current 240 families, another 200 families can be supplied with clean drinking water.

In the year 2018 the first construction phase (cost approx. 73.000 €) was subsidised with 51.000 € (approx. 70%). The rest of the financing will be provided by the population itself and ProNepal. The first construction phase included the drilling of the deep well, the construction of a pump house, the electrical equipment and the pipes for the connection to a compensating reservoir.

In 2019, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano assured a financial support for the second construction phase (cost approx. 42,500 €) with approx. 29,600 € (approx. 70%). Here, too, ProNepal and the population will take over the remaining financing. This second section provides for the construction of a 100 m³ compensation basin and the connection of the reservoir to the existing drinking water system.

Most of the work on the first construction phase has been completed, and work on the second is currently underway.

If there are no unforeseen events, all work can be expected to be completed in approximately one year.
