At the beginning of March 2017, a member of Pro Nepal spent some time in Kathmandu where he visited the Institute Aishworya, the Institute Sahayogi Samai and the Society for each other (SEO). He also met the children supported by some members of Pro Nepal. Before he left Italy, they gave him some gifts and letters for them. The Institute Helping Hands for the deaf has been visited by our contact person of SEO, who has given out letters and gifts to the deaf children who live there.

Pro Nepal is supporting 60 children through these Associations.

Meeting the children was touching; thanks to our support, they can attend classes, a lot of them can live in the institutes where nurses can take care of them. We have been supporting lots of these children for many years, therefore sometimes after finishing school, they´re going back home. Attending classes will be helpful in order to keep on living.

One family in Bolzano donated 270 euro in order to buy food for the Orphanage Bal Mandir. A member of Pro Nepal has bought 12 sacks with 25 kg rice (300 kg), 25 kg yellow lentils, 25 kg green lentils, 25 kg sugar, 2 kg tea and 10 l oil (total amount: 270 euro).

Food has been bought in his presence and hauled to Bal Mandir, where the Director got it, emitted a standard receipt and wrote a thanksgiving letter, which has already been sent to the family who made the donation.

State of the orphanage:

The earthquakes in 2015 have seriously damaged the Institute which risks crumbling, therefore the total amount to rebuild it would be very high. At the moment almost 80 children are living in temporary buildings, whereas others have moved to different Institutes.

Before the earthquake 200-300 children were hosted in the Orphanage Bal Mandir in Kathmandu.

On her recent trip to Nepal, trekking guide Buddhi Maya Sherpa, from Nepal herself, and very well-known in South Tyrol, visited the schools in the villages of Dhobi and Nagi in the remote district of Ramechap, both having been badly hit by the earthquake.

There, with our support, she distributed over 500 schoolbags and 500 schoolbooks to the children.

As no help has come from the government in nearly two years, the remaining donation money has been used to provide temporary shelters for the students so that they can continue their lessons. Our next step is the reconstruction of one of these schools.
